FREE eBook: Should Christians Make or Watch Horror Movies?

In reference to the Armor of God in Ephesians 6:17, the sword of the Spirit, is the Rhema spoken word of God, or the short Roman sword for offensive and defensive, close-quarter combat. Before we use the Rhema in culture, we need to use a scalpel on our own hearts.
For those with ears to hear and eyes to see.
Jesus’ parables all have a horizontal, relational, worldly element that’s easy for all to connect to, and a vertical, spiritual, Kingdom aspect that’s a deeper meaning who those who want it. Edgy Faith movies seek to have both these layers, a surface entertainment with a Kingdom of God depth hiding underneath the surface.
A process that’s more important than the product.
Movies seem like a perfect method to fulfill the Great Commission, to go and make disciples in all the nations, because the Internet extends digital content to the ends of the earth. God cares how we treat people during the production than the final outcome of the efforts of our hands. If we have not love, we are just noise. Relationships are what matters, and disciple-making can only happen face to face over a period of time – Jesus took 3 years!
A Resource for Investors, Sponsors and Parents!
Edgy Faith will be a searchable database for Faith & Genre storytellers to pitch their projects to the people who need to know the Kingdom-intent and Christian worldview of each project, which might not be obvious from the finished product. This page is not for the audiences of these projects! Why? Because movies are primarily a form of entertainment. Kingdom-minded investors want to tell stories that connect with the whole person – emotional, spiritual, intellectual and physical, aka heart, soul, mind and strength – and leave a lasting impact.
Our goal is to reach Gen Z who are furthest from God, to move them along the Engel Scale.

Using genre as language …
… to reach audiences furthest from God.
The intent of Edgy Faith is to create a searchable resource for investors, donors and parents to learn the Why and intent behind Faith & Genre movies, books, comics, etc. The end-audience chooses entertainment based on the title, cover/poster, trailer and artists/stars — they should stick to the marketing sites for those projects. But the investors, sponsors and parents might not trust the movie until they get to know the filmmaker and their heart, worldview and intent for making their project — the process behind the product. The resource for supporters to trust Faith & Genre projects is EdgyFaith.com.
Use this intake form for your stories, finished or in development. Once a number of projects get submitted, I’ll create a private page for previewing.
Case Study – Puberty From Hell Movie
I realized with my teen abstinence comedy, Puberty From Hell, that if I blindly shared the script with someone that’s not the target audience, they’d often have a strong reaction to the puberty and sex jokes. I found that they’d have a much better reception if I built trust with them first. They need Edgy Faith as a tool to learn the worldview and Kingdom-intent, and how sexuality is handled, in the screenplay. The teen audience shouldn’t necessarily know about Edgy Faith because any hint of education or message might make them avoid the movie; they should just see the poster, logline and cast and want to see it because it’s a comedy that actually looks funny to them, and their friends are talking about it. Parents and investors who see the movie playing at theaters or online and see Puberty From Hell will likely reject the movie on appearances, so they need Edgy Faith to help them understand it. Especially if I want them to put money into it and not campaign against it. They could go to MovieGuide or Dove for a review from a Christian perspective, but these sites don’t understand genre.
What will show on Edgy Faith: Puberty From Hell is a teen abstinence comedy that gives an alternative to the teen sex movies that Hollywood puts out, that assume all teens are sexually promiscuous and force a Planned Parenthood agenda down their throats.
What will show on the movie website: Puberty From Hell, an impatient late-bloomer unlocks his puberty, which was trapped by a fairy tale curse, the week before Prom; now he must control his new raging sex drive to keep his childhood sweetheart.
As a filmmaker, I could also make a version that’s more palatable for younger homeschoolers, such as the service VidAngel creates, called Puberty From Heck. But, there’s a point when this movie is not appropriate for younger teens.

FYI, one niche will be Plumb Shack Collective
Edgy Faith could represent a variety of niche projects. Plumb Shack Collective is a pointer to Faith versions of the types of movies found at Blum House Entertainment.
Members of Edgy Faith can suggest another niche to organize their projects around and find a like-minded audience.
